Manu Kone is being watched by Liverpool’s sporting director Jorg Schmadtke as a prospective acquisition.

Earlier in the transfer window, Kone was mentioned as one of the players Liverpool was interested in. Links, however, have become a little quieter since Dominik Szoboszlai was signed and Romeo Lavia was targeted.

Christian Falk, a journalist, asserts that this might soon alter. Falk asserts in a piece for CaughtOffside that despite Kone’s recent injury, the Reds and Schmadtke in particular are still interested in signing the 22-year-old.

The journalist said, “Jorg Schmadtke made it obvious that it won’t happen between Liverpool and Micky van de Ven. “Jurgen Klopp is telling the market what he wants at Liverpool, and Schmadkte is making preparations based on this.

“For instance, we’ve discussed Manu Kone in the past. It will take time for him to recover because he injured his knee at the European U21 Championship and cannot currently pass any medical exams. So English clubs like Liverpool may find this topic to be interesting.

“Schmadtke is watching him. Schmadtke is now working on these topics in the background.

Schmadtke watching over Kone

We might now start to hear about links to rumoured targets once more as Liverpool gets ready to live without Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

For instance, the Reds had long since stopped looking for Moises Caicedo this summer. The Ecuadorian is reportedly back on it now that it has been revealed that two senior midfielders may depart Anfield.

The same may be true with Ryan Gravenberch, a player who has been frequently linked to Liverpool.

And if those two stories are still alive, then you’d have to think that Kone’s could well be as well.

Earlier this week, the Frenchman was discussing his future in a very relaxed manner. It appears that he’s biding his time waiting for the right move.

The longer he waits, the more attractive he may become to Liverpool. Described as ‘phenomenal’ by Mark Schwarzer last season, Kone is certainly a player who you could see at Anfield.

For now, it still feels as though other targets are ahead of him. But there’s been plenty of twists in this window so far, so we can’t rule it out.
