At the Belgian Grand Prix, Stefano Domenicali and F1 executives will talk about possible changes to sprint weekend.

Grand Prix qualification is taking place this weekend on a Friday and a Saturday that are exclusively for the sprint. However, a potential modification might place the sprint on a Saturday morning with sprint qualifying on the Friday, with grand prix qualifying continuing to take place as usual.

A “Grand Slam” award for a driver who wins both pole positions and both races in a single weekend is another potential modification. Given Max Verstappen’s dominance of the season thus far, this regulation is likely to benefit Verstappen.

There will be six sprints, and we will probably announce them in September because the Formula 1 Commission will convene around the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. Domenicali advised

While Spa will host the third of six sprint weekends in 2023, the precise locations of the sprints for 2024 have not yet been determined.

“I have a suggestion that would fit with the idea of the ‘Grand Slam’.

“It is that drivers who win two pole positions and two races over the course of the weekend should be recognised with something extra, which honours their contributions to sport.”
