Edson Alvarez is a midfield powerhouse worth between £35 and £40 million, and West Ham United has rekindled their interest in him.

Edson Alvarez is a player that West Ham United are interested in signing, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The London club is in contact with Ajax, who may demand £35–40 million for the Mexican midfielder as David Moyes looks to strengthen his team.

Declan Rice’s upcoming sale is almost certainly going to happen, in which case West Ham would get the first installment of the £100 million in fixed fees that was promised. The Hammers are not even close to bringing in new players, even if they intend to spend a significant amount of it on newcomers.

David Moyes will give individuals in his team who can fill the Rice-shaped hole in his midfield priority. Although they are already in negotiations with Juventus for Denis Zakaria, the Swiss star won’t be sufficient to bolster the team by himself.

As anticipated, West Ham is considering adding one or potentially two midfielders during this transfer window. Now, they’re showing renewed interest in Edson Alvarez. The midfield behemoth valued at £35–40 million is willing to leave Ajax, but it’s unclear if he would rather sign with the Hammers.

Earlier in the window, West Ham targeted the Mexican star. At the time, he was very close to joining Borussia Dortmund, but his move to Germany fell through. Ajax may demand a £35–40 million transfer price in exchange for the midfielder, who is eager to leave, but the Hammers have not yet made an offer.

If they receive approval from Ajax regarding their want to sell, an offer might come after. Alvarez was on the verge of moving to Chelsea last summer, but the Dutch club blocked the transfer because it was too late to locate a replacement.

In all competitions, he made an appearance 44 times, mostly as a defensive midfielder. Alvarez has much experience playing defence and is capable of doing so. The 25-year-old may consider his alternatives, but West Ham can guarantee him participation in the Europa League the following year.

He could consider setting up home in London, though it is unclear if that would be sufficient. Compared to last summer, there is a noticeable lack of interest in the 25-year-old midfield dynamo, but he could wait for additional offers.

The Hammers are the only group in town with an interest right now, but in order to begin talks, they must make a competitive initial offer. Alvarez might prove to be a wise acquisition for Moyes, who may experiment with different approaches to make the most of his midfield options in the upcoming campaign.
