As he recovers from a brain haemorrhage, Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has been transferred to a hospital in the Netherlands.

When Van der Sar was taken to the hospital last week while on vacation with his family in Croatia, his wife, Annemarie, later revealed that he was not in ‘life-threatening danger’ and was in a stable state.

The former custodian has now been brought closer to his house, but he is still receiving medical care as his recovery process continues.

Van der Sar’s wife provided the most recent information on his status in a statement issued by Ajax on Saturday morning. She said: “His situation remains the same: stable, in a non-life-threatening condition, and communicative.

The family of Van der Sar want to convey their sincere gratitude to the University Hospital of Split for their excellent treatment over the past week.

The family fervently hopes Edwin can concentrate on his recuperation after spending time in the intensive care unit where he will be further evaluated.

Following Annemarie’s most recent update, his former teammate Rio Ferdinand gave a fresh message of encouragement.

Between 2005 and 2011, Van der Sar made 266 games for United and won numerous prestigious awards, including four Premier League championships and the Champions League.

Up until two months ago, the 52-year-old had the title of Ajax’s CEO.
