Everything is set in motion for Oriol Romeu’s return to FC Barcelona, barring confirmation of an official statement.

The 31-year-old midfielder will soon sign with his old team after leaving Catalan rivals Girona.

Barcelona and Girona ultimately secured a comprehensive agreement to sign Romeu over the weekend after protracted negotiations.

The agreement for the Spanish midfielder is expected to cost €5 million plus add-ons. Pablo Torre, who is moving from Barcelona to Girona on a season-long loan, is also part of the deal.

Romeu chose to finish his Barcelona medicals rather than participate in training with Girona today. Additionally, according to Alex Pintanel, the 31-year-old’s medical examinations were successful.

In fact, following the procedure, Romeu even spoke a little with the media about his impending move to Barcelona and said: “Yes, I’m happy.”

Romeu went on to add that he has not had any exchange with Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez yet, though, as he said: “I haven’t spoken to Xavi yet.”

Romeu’s transfer is only a matter of time now and an official announcement could arrive in the coming hours.

However, there’s a potential the team will wait until tomorrow to officially announce the deal, so as not to conflict with Ilkay Gundogan’s ceremonial introduction to the Barcelona team, which is presently taking place.

In any case, Romeu will soon reunite with his childhood team to fix a large hole in the park’s centre and will be able to travel to the United States for the preseason tour.
