As new manager Mauricio Pochettino aims to add bright youth to his roster, Chelsea has finalised the signing of Brazilian adolescent Angelo Gabriel from Santos.
The 18-year-old winger earned 129 first-team appearances for Santos after becoming the youngest player in the history of Brazil’s national championship when he made his senior debut at the age of 15 years and 308 days.
Although Gabriel’s value and the duration of his contract have not been made public, rumours indicate that the Premier League team paid about £13 million ($17 million) for him.
An announcement published on the club’s official website on Sunday said, “Welcome to Chelsea, Angelo!”
Angelo joins the London club after playing 129 times for Santos in all competitions, contributing 10 assists and five goals. He also scored the first goal ever in the history of the Copa Libertadores.
