Yasser Larouci, a former Liverpool defender, has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan and is now back in England and the Premier League.

At the end of his loan, the 22-year-old has the option to be purchased by the Blades. He joined the Liverpool academy in 2017, however the Reds dismissed him at the conclusion of the 2020–21 campaign.

In the 2019–20 season, he only made two senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp, both in the FA Cup. In the third round victory over Everton at Anfield in January 2020 and the subsequent round’s 2-2 draw at Shrewsbury Town, he participated.

Larouci played a significant role in Liverpool’s preseason games ahead of the 2019–20 season, although he was never able to cement a spot in the senior squad.

Following his release, he moved to Troyes in France, but he is eager to reunite with former Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster at Bramall Lane.

“I think this is a terrific project for me,” he stated, “to play for Sheffield United and play in the Premier League. I’m glad. Paul Heckingbottom and I discussed the group, the idea, and the formation, and I believe that will work to my advantage.

“I am familiar with some of the players here, including Rhian and Iliman [Ndiaye], so it will be fantastic to work with them and see them again. I am very excited to play. Hopefully, I’ll be able to participate in a few of the exhibition games and get a chance to demonstrate my abilities on the pitch. It’s an opportunity for me to change along with the team and everything else.

“We’re pleased and for a number of reasons,” said Blades manager Heckingbottom. We knew we needed to fill this position, so it was crucial to be able to bring in someone like Yasser, who we believe has the skills and abilities to complement the way we want to play.

He plays with a lot of front foot, is quick, and enjoys bursting forward from defensive positions, which is how we like to play. At his previous club, he was a wing-back, but he also felt at home in a back four. We’re really happy to have finished this one.

Prior to the rematch on April 3, Liverpool travels to South Yorkshire to take on Sheffield United on December 5.
