Novak Djokovic was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon to win his second Major championship.

Although Rafael Nadal was unable to compete at Wimbledon this year, the victor was glad for him! As the third Spanish player to do so, Carlos Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon championship, joining Manolo Santana and Rafael Nadal. With an emotional statement, Nadal congratulated the 20-year-old on defeating Novak Djokovic and winning the first All England Club men’s singles championship since 2010.

Carlos won his second Major championship in four hours and 42 minutes after defeating a seven-time winner 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Alcaraz lost the first set and survived a set point in the tie break of the second set to stay in the game.

A 23-time Major winner found his strokes in the fourth set to force a decider after the young gun had the upper hand in the third set. With an early break, Carlos won the key points and advanced to his second Major title at such a young age.

Novak made a perfect start and claimed the opener 6-1 in 34 minutes after a double break.Carlos raised his level in the second set and fired 17 winners and 14 unforced errors to follow the rival’s pace. They traded early breaks and served well in the remaining games to introduce a tie break.

After a mini-break and a huge serve, Djokovic was up 3-0 before Alcaraz fought back and took the lead at 5-4. After Carlos’ volley blunder, Novak evened the match at 5-5 and won a set point with a backhand winner. Djokovic lost it with a careless backhand and then netted another to trail 7-6.

After 1 hour and 59 minutes, Alcaraz won a set point with a backhand return winner to tie the match at 1-1! After 15 straight victories this year, Novak lost a tie break at the Majors before losing steam and leaving the court in set three.

The amount of service games the Serb lost prior to the championship match was over 20, and he was broken three times. Carlos established a 3-1 lead in the first round by grabbing an early break and holding off two break points in the fourth game.

There were 13 doubles in the game, many game points for Novak, and seven break chances for the talented rookie! When Novak’s forehand was blocked, Carlos pounced on the opportunity to score a huge point. The Spaniard held at 15 in the sixth game before clinching the set with a second break a few minutes later to take a commanding lead into the fourth set.

In the second game, Novak took a long break and saved two break points to save his demise. With his eighth Wimbledon title on the line, the Serb stepped in and took advantage of breaks in games five and nine to win the set 6-3 and force a decider.

They missed a break point in games one and two of the final set, and Carlos delivered a break in game three to move in front. Alcaraz served for the title at 5-4 and held at 30 after forcing Djokovic’s error to celebrate his career-best moment.
