According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea “will improve” the terms it is giving Brighton in order to try to recruit Moises Caicedo “this week.”
Chelsea has acknowledged that they will need to pay “more than £70m,” which seems to be their current offer, even if Brighton wants £100m for their player and Chelsea won’t match that.
It’s not a matter of official “bids,” as Romano notes, but the two teams are always conversing to see what price they would both be content with. The bid itself is essentially a formality once that has been decided.
This whole deal has ground to a frustrating halt in recent weeks which helps nobody, and with both teams heading to the USA this week for their preseason tour, everyone understands it’s time to reach a conclusion.
In all honesty we could have just opened the bidding at £80m and probably we would already have Caicedo in a Blue shirt by now. We’re not sure what purpose this last month of fiddling around has benefitted us.
