Wesley Fofana will be out of action for a sizable amount of time as he has surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.

WHAT HAPPENED? Wesley Fofana underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery, according to a statement released by Chelsea on Tuesday.

Due to expert medical evaluations, which regrettably confirmed that an operation would be necessary, the 22-year-old was unable to join the team on its preseason tour of America. Now that his recovery has started, Wesley will cooperate with the team’s medical staff at Cobham during his recovery period.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Fofana has suffered numerous injuries in the past. He missed a major amount of Leicester’s 2021–22 season due to a fractured leg, and he has spent more time in the hospital after signing a lucrative contract with Chelsea in the summer of 2022. Last season, he made just 15 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

His absence might require the squad to look for a new centre back this summer, but it might also help youngster Levi Colwill get into the starting lineup for the upcoming season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

WHAT COMES NEXT FOR FOFANA? The goal of the defender’s extensive rehabilitation is to bring him back on the pitch as soon as feasible.
