In a setback for Manchester United, Kim Min-Jae has completed his transfer from Napoli to Bayern Munich.
WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? The South Korean international had been strongly linked with United this summer, but has now been officially introduced by the German champions after a €50 million (£43 million/$56 million) deal was reached between the teams.
The 26-year-old, who helped Napoli win the Serie A championship in 2022–23, is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the league today, although it is unclear whether his absence from United would be felt significantly. Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is a target for Erik ten Hag’s team, who appear to be focusing their efforts on finalising the transfer for Inter custodian Andre Onana.
WHAT THEY SAY: “Bayern is every footballer’s dream,” Kim stated. “I’m incredibly excited for everything that Munich has in store for me. It represents a fresh beginning for me.
WHAT COMES UP FOR KIM? Prior to Bayern’s German Super Cup first match against RB Leipzig on August 12, he will be hoping to earn a berth in Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup.
