Jonny Evans, a former defender for Manchester United, has officially signed a short-term contract, shocking everyone

HOW COME THAT? Following Evans’ departure from Leicester City at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, the club announced that he had been re-signed on a “short term deal” after he trained with the club’s Under-21 team. According to the statement, Evans has participated in first team practises and has impressed Erik ten Hag and other coaches.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: He is now expected to travel to San Diego with the club’s youth on preseason tour after being named to United’s squad for their forthcoming preseason friendly against Lyon at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. Due to injuries, both defenders Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett will be unable to go to Scotland and the USA in the near future.

Whether Evans will stay at United for a longer period of time is not yet known. Although Everton and Celtic have been heavily linked to him, he will play for United against Lyon for the first time since 2015.

WHAT COMES UP FOR UNITED? On July 19, they play Lyon in Edinburgh, the team’s first game in Scotland in 13 years.
