Dominik Szoboszlai was acquired by Liverpool for £60 million, and Man City might now miss out on acquiring Josko Gvardiol.
Following the sale of Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool, RB Leipzig’s director of sport Max Eberl has acknowledged that they don’t need to sell Josko Gvardiol, who is a target for Manchester City.
This summer, there has been a lot of talk about the Croatian player. According to sources, the highly-rated 21-year-old was scheduled to have a physical with the Premier League winners after an agreement was struck.
Since Gvardiol’s contract with the Red Bull Arena expires in 2027, it is believed that Marco Rose’s team will demand at least €100 million (£86.7 million) for the defender.
But the Leipzig leader kept up his tough stance against the rumors surrounding the center back on Friday. Two of the Bundesliga team’s prized possessions have already been turned over this summer.
DFB Pokal champions Christopher Nkunku and Szoboszlai, who successfully concluded deals to Chelsea and Liverpool, have already left Die Roten Bullen.
Szoboszlai’s £60 million release clause was exercised by the Reds hours before its deadline on June 30. In doing so, they welcomed Alexis Mac Allister’s arrival as their second summer signing.
With Pep Guardiola’s team still showing interest, Eberl put a damper on the rumblings surrounding Gvardiol by claiming the Reds don’t require the money because of their business.
The truth is that Man City wants to have him, according to Eberl, speaking to Sky Germany. We are still so far apart right now. Szoboszlai’s transfer has given us financial security. The funds are not required. Josko should remain, in our opinion.
“We do not block anything as a club. We are open and honest. However, we have our own ideas and want them to be carried out.
