In a friendly match on Monday against the German team SpVgg Greuther Furth, Liverpool will continue their preseason preparations.

The Reds’ most recent match saw them defeat Karlsruher 4-2, with goals from Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota.

Prior to the upcoming Premier League season, manager Jurgen Klopp will want his team to keep up their positive momentum as they want to outperform last year and finish in the top four.

But in the interim, it seems that the Merseyside team is getting close to signing a Championship player.

The Reds are advancing in their pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, according to Football Insider.

According to the report, Liverpool continues to communicate with the Saints and is optimistic that a deal can be reached by the end of July.

Lavia, 19, moved to Southampton last summer from Manchester City and had an outstanding first season on the south coast.

The Belgian played in 34 games across all competitions, but he was powerless to stop the team from falling to the second division.

The teenager’s current contract with his club runs through 2027, but Liverpool is hoping that they can reach an agreement and wrest the boy away from St. Mary’s.

Other major Premier League clubs, like Chelsea and Arsenal, are also rumoured to have expressed interest in Lavia, and Lavia’s old team, Manchester City, is thought to have added a buy-back clause to the agreement last summer.

James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all left Liverpool this summer; Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are reportedly anticipated to leave in the near future.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been acquired by the Reds, but it looks that Klopp wants to strengthen his midfield options even further in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Lavia is apparently eager to transfer to Anfield, but it is unclear whether Southampton will permit one of their key players to depart this summer.
