Chelsea have contacted Ajax over the possibility of signing midfielder Mohammed Kudus, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein. The Blues are looking for a new midfielder after losing the likes of Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic this summer.

Chelsea Makes Approach for Mohammed Kudus

Chelsea’s Position on Kudus Has Been Revealed. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has been unable to replace the midfield experience they have lost, leaving them devoid of choices in that area.

In the midst of all of this, Ornstein claims that the Blues have indicated an interest in signing the 22-year-old Ghana international this summer. According to the source, they have not yet made an official offer to Ajax, but there has been internal communication between the teams.

Ornstein also claims that Chelsea is nearing a personal agreement with Kudus, who is one of several options being evaluated by the team to enhance their midfield line. The midfielder’s contract with the Eredivisie club expires in 2025, and he just rejected an extension offer, according to Ornstein.

Who Else Is on Chelsea’s Radar?

Chelsea remain closely connected with a deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, and a £70 million bid for him was reportedly rebuffed. The Blues are keeping tabs on a number of midfield targets, and it looks that they are currently making steps to sign Kudus, who is reported to be worth £48 million.

They could be acquiring a versatile player in the Ajax man, who scored against Liverpool at Anfield last season in the UEFA Champions League and twice for Ghana at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Last season, the 22-year-old, dubbed “exceptional,” was one of Ajax’s top players. He had 18 goals and seven assists in all competitions while playing as an offensive midfielder, center-forward, and winger at times.
