Arsenal transfer news Following rumours of Chelsea’s interest for another attacking playmaker, Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of Mohammed Kudus received a significant boost.
Arsenal may be poised to take a significant step toward signing Ajax star Mohammed Kudus this summer. The Gunners are thought to be interested in signing the playmaker to improve Mikel Arteta’s attacking options, but they are not alone.
Chelsea are also interested in signing the 22-year-old, according to The Athletic, and have made contact with Ajax about a possible transfer.
Kudus has established himself as one of Europe’s most fascinating young players after joining from FC Nordsjaelland in 2020 for €9 million (£7.7 million). In 84 games for Ajax, he has scored 23 goals and assisted 11 others, garnering recognition for both club and country.
Because of competition from Chelsea, the Gunners may find themselves in yet another bidding war with their London rivals. Despite months of speculation, Arteta missed out on Mykhailo Mudryk in January as the Blues came in and met Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking price.
Chelsea, on the other hand, appear to be moving quickly to add to Mauricio Pochettino’s alternatives in the final third. According to RMC Sport, a proposal of around £35 million has been made for Crystal Palace wonderkid Michael Olise.
Personal terms and a fee have still to be agreed upon, but a move for Olise may open the way for Arsenal to sign Kudus.
Adding Kudus to Arteta’s attacking options continues the north London club’s recent approach of investing in versatile players. The newcomers this summer, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice, can all play a number of roles.
The policy’s goal is to provide as many options as possible when a scenario arises. While Kudus fits the requirements well, his lack of Premier League experience means his arrival would be fraught with risk, which the club is well aware of.
