Harvey Barnes has agreed to terms with Newcastle United for an undisclosed amount.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Magpies, becoming their third signing of the summer after Yankuba Minteh and Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Barnes joins Eddie Howe’s side after graduating from Leicester City’s development system.

During his time with the Foxes, he made 187 first-team appearances, won the FA Cup, and was capped by England at senior international level.

Despite being relegated last season, Barnes had his finest Premier League goalscoring season, scoring 13 times to finish as the club’s leading scorer.

“I’m ecstatic,” Barnes added. It’s a wonderful club, and for me, it’s a huge opportunity to be a part of a successful team that’s doing interesting things, so I’m overjoyed to be here.

“I think it’s an attacker’s dream to come into a team like this, it’s high paced, it’s physically demanding, but you can see the rewards of that with the chances and goals scored, so I think I’ll certainly suit the style.”

“Harvey is an exciting talent who I have admired for a long time, so I’m delighted to welcome him to Newcastle United,” stated Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe.

“He is strong, quick, and technically very good, and he demonstrated last season in particular that he has an eye for goal from wide positions.”

“He will add a different element to our play, and we look forward to working with him as we prepare for the season ahead.”
