- On the club’s podcast, Jurgen Klopp stated that ‘new players must come in.
- Saudi interest in Jordan Henderson and Fabinho has modified their plans.
- Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already joined the club.
Jurgen Klopp has stated that more new faces must arrive at Liverpool before the start of the Premier League season, and he has asked fans to put their belief in him.
The Reds have already strengthened their attacking options with the signings of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton for £35 million and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60 million.
A Saudi storm, however, has jeopardized their plans, with Jordan Henderson completing his Al-Ettifaq medical and Al-Ittihad and Bayern Munich pursuing Fabinho.
The volatility has left the Merseysiders needing to line up first-team midfield options in the event of their exits, and Klopp has admitted that the club is not done shopping.
‘There are so many things to do,’ he stated on the We Are Liverpool podcast. The transfer window is now open. It would not be an issue if my day had 28 hours at the present – I could easily fill them!
‘With all you have to accomplish, my main concentration and energy has to go into the training sessions, so that’s what I do. Then, on either side of the sessions, I can try to assist with other tasks.
‘The first game of the season is still three and a half weeks away. A few things must happen before then, including a transfer market.
‘That is now evident. And it will occur. New players must be recruited. We’ll have a great squad.’
Liverpool has been connected with a number of midfield alternatives.
There has been talk of a move for Southampton’s 19-year-old sensation Romeo Lavia, but his £50 million price tag may deter them given his inexperience.
The club is also considering a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure. The south London club have valued the Mali international at £70 million but are yet to be tested by a bid.
Earlier this summer, it appeared that their interest in Nice’s Khepren Thuram had waned following the acquisition of Szoboszlai, but the exits of Henderson and Fabinho might rekindle that.
Further afield, they may consider Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who impressed for Morocco at the World Cup, or Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.
‘Seven and a half years ago… I said that we have to transform from doubters to believers,’ Klopp added.
‘I didn’t know [at] the time that this will kind of be a slogan of that moment since we all evolve. So, I wasn’t sure at the time, and I may have been skeptical at first, but I eventually became a firm believer.
‘But, of course, the previous years, nearly winning the quadruple but not actually completing it, and then having the season we had, it can create some uncertainty, I know.
‘Then people want to change – they want to alter the team on 12 positions one day and only one the next. And then we change, and it’s the incorrect player, ‘No, no, not him,’ and so on.
‘What I’d want to request is that you believe us.
‘We feel tremendously responsible for what is occurring here, and we will go to whatever length to ensure that this season is one we will never forget. That is the strategy.
