Mohammed Kudus has been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea this summer, but the Gunners may have a significant advantage over their rivals.

Arsenal may have a significant lead over Chelsea in the race to recruit Ajax star Mohammed Kudus during the summer transfer window.

It comes as the Gunners continue to make market moves, despite their current spending exceeding £200 million. The additions of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber account for the majority of that large spend, with the north London club aiming for Premier League and Champions League triumph.

They came close last season, but a lack of depth and talent may have cost them the title to Manchester City. That’s not to say Arsenal and Mikel Arteta didn’t have a meaningful season, with both presenting their vision for all to see after years of waiting.

The spending this summer may be justified as support for what the project has demonstrated to be capable of generating, but there may be more incomings. “Let’s see, there’s still a lot of time in the market,” Arteta remarked when asked if there would be any more arrivals this summer.

“Some of our players have high expectations.” We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next weeks. We will be vigilant; there is still time to act, and there is obviously time for escapes, so I am confident that things will move.”

One of those mentioned is Ajax star Kudus, who has impressed in the past year despite the Dutch club’s struggles in the league. The Ghanaian has shown a lot of promise, capable of playing throughout the front line but mostly as a facilitator behind the striker.

Should the Gunners sign the attacking midfielder, they will have to outbid rivals Chelsea, who are also said to be interested. However, they have a double advantage in the contest thanks to two of their own team players who may assist encourage a transition.

One of them is new star Timber, who joined the Emirates Stadium from Ajax this summer and has since settled in beautifully. There could also be a surprising endorsement from keeper Rnar Alex Rnarsson, who played together at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

The duo even follow each other on Instagram, implying that they are close and may be discussing the prospect of relocating. It remains to be seen whether that is the case, or whether a transfer can even be made from Arsenal’s end, but it might be a move that not only strengthens their roster but also removes a target from a rival.
