Southampton are understood to be holding out for £50 million for the 19-year-old; a source told Sky Sports News that Chelsea are also interested in him and are keeping an eye on his position. Lavia’s contract at Southampton expires after four years.

Southampton have rejected a £40 million bid from Liverpool for midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The Saints are thought to be asking for £50 million for the 19-year-old.

Chelsea are also intrigued, according to one source, and are keeping an eye on his position.

Lavia has four years left on his Southampton contract.

The Belgium international joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, but is set to go after the Saints were demoted from the Premier League at the end of last season.

Jurgen Klopp has already brought in two new midfielders this summer, with Alexis MacAllister joining from Brighton for £35 million and Dominik Szoboszlai joining from RB Leipzig for £60 million.

Those new arrivals have taken the place of departed midfielders James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita, while captain Jordan Henderson and Brazil international Fabinho could possibly exit this summer.
