The latest West Bromwich Albion news comes as the club confirms the loan signing of Brighton and Hove Albion winger

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the loan signing of winger Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton & Hove Albion for a season.

The 21-year-old becomes Carlos Corberan’s first summer addition as Albion manager attempts to enhance his squad ahead of the new season.

The Ecuador international lands at the Hawthorns looking for first-team action in the upcoming season. He made 12 Premier League appearances for Brighton last season, but he also played in all three of Ecuador’s World Cup group games.

He has been with Brighton since arriving from Benfica in 2021, but will now want to gain more match experience with Albion in the Championship.

Corberan stated upon his signing that his expertise in both the Premier League and on the international scene was one of the reasons the club went for him this window.

“The fact that he has already played in the Premier League and at a World Cup gives me the confidence that he has the personality and desire required to keep developing his skills,” he said on the club’s official website.

“He is a versatile attacker who can play on either wing as well as through the middle as a 10, and his ability to perform well in three different positions will be crucial to us.”

Sarmiento’s arrival comes after winger Marc Albrighton returned to parent club Leicester City after spending the second half of last season on loan at West Brom. The loanee appeared in 17 games for the club.
