Manchester United are keen to keep the Scottish midfielder and would require a substantial offer to permit his exit.

West Ham are interested in signing Scott McTominay but would need to pay roughly £45 million for Manchester United to contemplate selling the Scotland midfielder.

Erik ten Hag is content to keep McTominay next season and would only authorise his sale if a substantial offer came along that merited serious consideration.

West Ham boss David Moyes, who is also interested in signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, regards McTominay as a beneficial addition.

However, it could take roughly £40 million to £45 million for United to consider selling McTominay at a time when they have other midfielders on the market.

United seek to collect up to £20 million by selling Fred, a Brazil midfielder in his final year of contract, who is being pursued by Fulham, Galatasaray, and Saudi teams.

Fred is not currently on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States owing to a personal matter, but he has switched agencies in preparation for a move this summer.

Donny van de Beek, the out-of-favour Holland midfielder who returned to duty this month after being sidelined since January with a knee injury, is also surplus to requirements and might go permanently or on loan depending on what happens in the coming weeks. Van de Beek has already stated that he may leave Manchester United.

McTominay is understood to be content to wait and see what United’s team looks like closer to the deadline on September 1 rather than making a hasty choice.

The 26-year-old adores United and is willing to stay, but he also wants to play and would be uncomfortable spending a season on the bench.

Any sale of academy graduate McTominay would be significant financially since it would represent pure profit on the books at a time when Uefa and the Premier League’s financial rules have imposed tight new spending limits.

The same could be said about forward Anthony Elanga, who has just completed a £15 million move to Nottingham Forest, and keeper Dean Henderson, who Forest also wants.

Despite this, United could not afford to lose McTominay, Fred, and Van de Beek without adding another midfielder.

United have already bought Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55 million, but Ten Hag is a fan of Fiorentina and Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and would contemplate a move for the 26-year-old if sufficient funds were produced through sales.
