Ireland in action against Jersey in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier at Goldenacre Cricket Ground in Edinburgh.

Ireland Men’s clinched their place in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup when their scheduled qualifier against Germany was cancelled due to weather in Edinburgh.

Ireland had won their previous four qualifying matches, defeating Italy, Denmark, Austria, and Jersey. The Irish needed one more point to ensure qualification, however owing to match cancellations on Friday, the points were shared among teams.

With a spot in the World Cup in the United States and the West Indies assured, Ireland will compete in the qualification competition once again, facing hosts Scotland in Grange Cricket Club on Friday at 3.30pm. That game will determine who wins the tournament in its entirety.

In response to Ireland’s qualification, captain Paul Stirling stated that the team was “delighted” to achieve their primary goal at the event in Edinburgh.

“We came to Scotland with a clear plan and style of play in mind, and I believe we delivered on that front.”

“So, we’ll celebrate the job well done this afternoon, but there’s a trophy on the line tomorrow, and we want to keep that winning momentum going into the India T20 series next month.”
