Liverpool are ‘strong favourites’ to sign a ‘great’ signing ahead of Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds appear to be in the lead, however the Blues are said to be waiting in the wings.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Liverpool were preparing a new formal bid for Lavia.

Chelsea, however, was ‘kept a close eye’ on the situation, while Arsenal had cooled their interest.

Since then, Liverpool appears to have moved ahead and is said to be in talks with Southampton.

Romano has now spoken to GiveMeSport, implying that the Reds are close to completing a deal for Lavia.

In a shock to Chelsea, the transfer insider claims that Liverpool are now the “big favourites” to sign the 19-year-old.

Lavia is reportedly interested in transferring to Anfield, and personal arrangements have been agreed upon.

“At the moment, the feeling is that Liverpool are the big favourites,” Romano wrote. “They intend to bid again.”

“They believe the player is willing to say ‘yes,’ so I believe they are confident.” But now is the time to seal the deal.”

Our view

As things currently stand, Liverpool appears to be ahead of Chelsea in the hunt to sign Lavia.

Arsenal’s withdrawal has given the Reds an additional boost, since they would have been tough competitors for his signing.

It’s obviously far too early to declare triumph. When it comes to swooping for a player, never rule out the Blues.

However, things appear to be moving in the right manner for Liverpool’s ambitions of acquiring Lavia.

If the Reds are successful, they will have acquired a ‘great’ talent who has the potential to be a long-term star.

Lavia, who is only 19 years old, has his entire future ahead of him. He is, however, already first-team ready.

He shone for Southampton, and there’s no doubt he’d do much better in one of the country’s best teams.
