Danny Welbeck of Brighton has revealed that Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool goodbye video moved him to tears.

On Wednesday evening, Henderson resorted to social media to upload a video of himself walking out of Anfield for the final time, accompanied by a reflection on the ups and downs of his 12-year stint on Merseyside. His move to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia was then formally confirmed yesterday.

The 33-year-old received numerous responses on his social media post from fellow professional footballers, one of which was from former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck. They were teammates at Sunderland during the 2010/11 season and have appeared together on international duty for England over the years.

Welbeck, clearly moved by Henderson’s video, said, “Incredible bro. Even a Manc was moved to tears.” Of course, the two-time FA Cup winner began his career at United before moving in 2014 to join Arsenal.

Mohamed Salah became the latest player to reach out to Henderson on social media following his transfer exit, sharing the following message earlier today: “It was great having you as our captain and it sucks to see you go. Our journey together was a truly special one full of important trophies. I wish you the best in the next stage of your career.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp commented on the departure of the 2019 Champions League winner, saying, “It’s sad, absolutely strange, because he is the only captain I had here at Liverpool, but I think it’s exciting for him as well.” We will miss him – as a man and as a player – without a doubt. But, as I already stated, that’s football.”
