Liverpool hold additional conversations about Romeo Lavia as they prepare to launch a new £45 million deal for the Southampton midfielder… with Chelsea still interested.
- Liverpool is poised to make a new bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
- The Championship club rejected the club’s original approach of £37 million.
- Lavia, a gifted midfielder, is in high demand this summer, with Chelsea also intrigued.
Liverpool and Southampton conducted additional negotiations on Thursday about a prospective £45 million transfer for midfielder Romeo Lavia
The club were planning a new bid shy of £50m, Lavia’s asking price, earlier this week, according to Mail Sport, after their initial offer of £34m + £4m was rejected.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be interested on bringing the promising teenager to Anfield this summer, and a higher bid could entice Saints into a reluctant sell.
Lavia, who joined St Mary’s from Manchester City last year, is in high demand ahead of the new season after a strong maiden season on the south coast.
Chelsea, in addition to Liverpool, are said to be interested.
Last season, the 19-year-old appeared in 29 Premier League games and was a bright spot in a season that saw the club relegated to the Championship.
He is expected to leave in the coming weeks, and Liverpool is hoping to sign him as part of their efforts to bolster their midfield.
Klopp has already recruited Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai to his team, but after losing several midfielders, he is still looking to add additional players.
Captain Jordan Henderson has left for Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, while Fabinho may possibly go with Al-Ittihad closing in on a deal.
Chelsea, meanwhile, has lost N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Denis Zakaria, with Conor Gallagher potentially joining them.
