Chelsea and AS Monaco have reached a €45 million ‘deal in principle’ for Axel Disasi according to reports.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea have sprung in from nowhere to clinch a “in principle” deal to sign AS Monaco centre back Axel Disasi. The transaction is “in the region of” €45 million.

For much of the summer, the 25-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Newcastle United, but it appears like his future will be Blue – assuming we conclude this agreement as well as the personal terms to complete the gazumping.

Chelsea were apparently motivated to make this deal by Wesley Fofana’s ACL injury (and not by wanting to jettison Trevoh Chalobah or Levi Colwill). Fofana is likely out for the whole season, or at least most of it.

Incidentally, Disasi will thus reunite with his former Monaco teammate Benoît Badiashile, with wChelsea and AS Monaco have reached a €45 million ‘deal in principle’ for Axel Disasi according to reports.hom he had formed a productive partnership for a couple years before the younger defender made the switch to Chelsea last January.

With Disasi’s arrival, the squad would have six fit centre backs, or five if Bashir Humphreys goes out on loan (Badiashile, Disasi, Chalobah, Colwill, Thiago Silva). That is most likely a good group.
