Diogo Jota was speaking after Liverpool’s pre-season friendly 4-0 victory over Leicester City
Diogo Jota, a Liverpool attacker, has urged his teammates to focus on the “physical side” of their game.
On Sunday, the Reds continued their preseason preparations with a 4-0 triumph over Leicester City at Singapore’s National Stadium. Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, Jota, and Ben Doak all scored.
Nunez scored after half an hour, and goals from Clark and Jota put the Reds in complete control of their Championship opponents before the break. Doak, who had taken over for Mohamed Salah at halftime, scored just after the hour mark.
Liverpool finished sixth last season, missing out on Champions League participation. And Jota, speaking to LFCTV, is determined to put his team back in contention for major accolades this season.
He said: “We wanted to build in this pre-season: the way we create from the back, the way we press. I think we had good moments [and] not-so-good moments in that first half.
“I think the result in the end was clearly favourable for us, but we want to build on this physical side of the game and the way we can build as well.”
“Of course, we want to do a lot better than we did last season,” the Portugal international continued. We had a poor season last year and are eager to improve.
“That’s what pre-season is all about: building and trying to get better in time for the start of the season.”
