Liverpool prepared for the start of the new Premier League season with a 4-0 pre-season friendly win over English rivals Leicester City in Singapore on Sunday.
Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, and Diogo Jota scored in an eight-minute span late in the first half to give the Reds a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Ben Doak then scored their fourth goal midway through the second half to secure a rout at National Stadium.
With two weeks until Liverpool kicks off their Premier League season against Chelsea, manager Jurgen Klopp can look back on a successful day of training for his team.
“We had a lot of good moments, but we can do better,” the German said.
“I’m perfectly fine with how things went.” The outcome was positive, no one was wounded (just a few knocks), and the mood before and after the game was excellent. So, yeah, it was a fantastic day at work.”
Liverpool play Bayern Munich in another pre-season friendly on Wednesday in Singapore, while Leicester, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, return to England to begin their Championship campaign against Coventry City next Sunday.
After nine minutes, Kasey McAteer’s through ball found Wilfred Ndidi behind the Liverpool defence, but the Nigerian midfielder’s effort was blocked by keeper Caoimhin Kelleher at point-blank range.
Liverpool were denied an early goal when Nunez’s shot was ruled out for offside, while Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen made a good save when Mohamed Salah sought to find Jota with a low cross.
Liverpool’s pressure, however, would finally pay off around the half-hour mark. Hermansen saved Jota’s strong low shot from the left channel, but he could only parry the ball to the far post, where Nunez turned in his team’s first goal.
Five minutes later, Salah played the ball into the box for Clark, who fired a right-footed shot past Hermansen and into the bottom corner of the net.
Three minutes later, Salah played a key role in Liverpool’s third goal, scooping the ball up for Jota to head home.
Liverpool changed all ten of their outfield players at halftime, yet they still had the majority of possession in the second half.
In the 64th minute, Joel Matip flicked Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner to the far post for Doak to nod home from a well-worked set-piece.
Leicester went close to a consolation goal when Patson Daka’s attempt was well blocked by Jarell Quansah while at the other end, Luis Diaz was twice left frustrated as he saw his headed goal disallowed for offside before being denied by a good save by Hermansen.
