Liverpool summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai was denied a wondergoal after his audacious strike from the centre circle was denied by a goalkeeper’s diving header

Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s new signing, had a wondergoal from inside the centre circle blocked by a diving header from the keeper.

Szoboszlai, 22, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig this summer for £60 million and has already given Reds fans a taste of what they can expect from the offensive midfielder.

Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, Diogo Jota, and Ben Doak scored for Liverpool in a 4-0 pre-season triumph over Leicester City in Singapore.

Despite being unable to add his name to the scoresheet, the Hungarian did not give up hope as he attempted to catch Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen off his line.

Szoboszlai quickly won the ball back in the centre circle from Foxes midfielder and former Tottenham Hotspur player Harry Winks, before looking at Hermansen’s location.

Szoboszlai spotted him way beyond his 18-yard box and clipped a shot goalwards, only for Hermansen to perform an incredible diving header to deny the Reds man a fairytale start to his Anfield career.

Szoboszlai’s creativity had Reds fans gushing on Twitter, with one writing, “Gegenpressing is in his DNA.”

A second stated, “Set pieces wise, we’re going to have some fun with Trent and Szobo in mind,” and a third said, “We’ve got ourselves a baller here.”

The stunning attempt would have been the Hungarian’s first goal for the club, but there are already indicators that Liverpool may have landed one of the Premier League’s most inventive and creative players. But he was denied by a diving header from the keeper (Image: @LFC/Twitter)

He will play alongside fellow new boy Alexis MacAllister in a remodelled Liverpool engine room that has seen skipper Jordan Henderson leave the club with Fabinho on the verge of joining him to Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool’s next pre-season game is against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, followed by a game against Darmstadt the following Monday before heading to Stamford Bridge for their Premier League debut in a few weeks.
