Allan Saint-Maximin: Winger leaves Newcastle for Al Ahli in a transaction valued over £23 million.
Allan Saint-Maximin is the latest player to leave the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League, joining Al-Ahli from Newcastle.
The former France youth international left St James’ Park for an undisclosed fee after four years.
Saint-Maximin will play alongside Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez at Al-Ahli, as the flood of prominent players to Saudi Arabia continues.
The 26-year-old has 13 goals in 124 appearances for the Magpies but has been plagued by injuries in previous seasons.
The sale of Saint-Maximin has been criticized because the Saudi Public Investment Fund owns a controlling stake in both Newcastle and Al-Ahli.
“Everyone at Newcastle United thanks Allan for his contribution to the club and community and extends best wishes for the next chapter in his career,” the club stated in a statement confirming his departure.
The 26-year-old will form an attacking frontline with former Manchester City winger and ex-Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, who joined Al Ahil on Friday.
Allan Saint-Maximin will partner former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and ex-Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino in Al Ahli’s frontline in the Saudi Pro League; Saint-Maximin scored 13 goals in 124 games for Newcastle after joining in August 2019 from Nice
