Erik ten Hag is set to take his Manchester United net spend higher than Jurgen Klopp‘s at Liverpool.

Despite the Glazers’ criticism, Ten Hag has received support in the transfer market since his appointment at Old Trafford last year. Last summer, the Red Devils spent more than £200 million on Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Tyrell Malacia.

Erik ten Hag will have spent more money than Jurgen Klopp in his first year at Manchester United.

This summer has seen the arrivals of Mason Mount for an initial fee of £55 million and Andre Onana for a fee of up to £47 million – with another signing on the way.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that United had negotiated a fee of £64 million plus £8 million in add-ons with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund, filling the striker hole Ten Hag had been attempting to fill.

During his tenure, there have been no major departures from the club, with Anthony Elanga’s £15 million move to Nottingham Forest being the most notable. So, once Hojlund is finished, his net spend will be £340 million.

In comparison, Klopp has earned £322 million in his nearly eight years at Anfield. He’s spent big money on players like Virgil van Dijk (£75 million) and Darwin Nunez (£64 million).

He’s also made his third most expensive signing of the transfer window in Dominik Szoboszlai, for whom the Reds paid RB Leipzig £60 million. Erik ten Hag will have spent more money than Jurgen Klopp in his first year at Manchester United.

However, Klopp’s spending has been offset by 14 outgoings totaling more than £10 million. Philippe Coutinho’s £142 million move to Barcelona was by far the most profitable.

Sadio Mane’s (£27.5m) and Christian Benteke’s (£27m) departures are the second and third largest, respectively, and have helped balance the books.

Although Klopp may overtake Ten Hag once more if Liverpool’s offer for Romeo Lavia is successful, with Southampton wanting £50 million for the teenage midfielder.
