Liverpool’s pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is about to get ‘interesting.’

The Reds have been pursuing Lavia in order to ease the blow of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho abruptly departing the club.

They have so far been received with disappointment. And there could be more, according to Sky Sports News correspondent Dharmesh Sheth. Following the rejection of an earlier proposal for the Belgian, Sheth believes Liverpool will face stiff competition for Lavia from Chelsea. Sky Sports News has released a transfer update for Liverpool fans.

“This is getting interesting because Chelsea still hold a strong interest in the Southampton midfielder,” says the journalist. “Personal terms not expected to be a problem, as they’re not expected to be a problem with Liverpool.

“Chelsea have not made a formal bid yet. Liverpool are the ones making the running as far as the bids are concerned.

“They had a £40m bid rejected last week; they’re expected to re-enter with an improved offer, but we believe they’ll face competition from Chelsea.”

It’s time to start moving, Reds.

Chelsea ready to enter Lavia race

Liverpool has virtually no time to waste in order to complete this deal.

Chelsea has been a transfer threat to more than one club in the last year. The Reds cannot allow themselves to be added to the list of teams beaten by Todd Boehly and company.

As the Blues struggle to make headway in their battle to sign Moises Caicedo, Lavia would look like a decent alternative.

The longer Liverpool fails to reach an agreement with Southampton for him, the more appealing he will seem.

Since last night, there have been hopeful signs that the Reds are making progress. With a deal thought to be ‘one step away,’ Liverpool fans should remain optimistic. Sky Sports News has released a transfer update for Liverpool fans.

Nonetheless, it is prudent to be vigilant. Chelsea have already showed no qualms about squeezing in on other clubs’ targets, and they are just as desperate for a player like Lavia as Liverpool are.

Anything is possible until we see the Belgian international smiling in a Reds shirt.
