Speaking to the Daily Echo, Southampton’s director of football Jason Wilcox revealed the club are in a position were they don’t need to sell players unless it’s a ‘win-win’ scenario.
“I have a responsibility to make the right recommendations to the football club on whether we should accept something and reinvest, whether it’s the right thing for the player or the club,” he said.
“In these cases, the best situation is to have a win-win agreement that is the best solution for all parties – but we have a value on them.”
“We’re a big football club that has been relegated to the Championship, but we have a value, and we’re not going to let our players leave unless we believe it’s a win-win situation.”
Lavia came on in the 74th minute to replace James Ward-Prowse in Saints’ final pre-season friendly against AZ Alkmaar at St Mary’s on Saturday.
Since joining Southampton from Manchester City last summer, the teenager has made 34 appearances in all competitions.
