According to rumours in Germany, Harry Kane is prepared to buy himself out of the remaining year of his Tottenham contract in order to force a move to Bayern Munich this summer.

  • Bayern Munich continue to prioritise a move for Tottenham’s all-time top scorer
  • The German champions logged a club-record £85m transfer bid for his services

The England captain’s future has become the most contentious transfer story of the summer, with Spurs insisting on a £100 million compensation to let the striker depart.

Bayern Munich, who have reportedly had three bids for the 30-year-old rejected, have emerged as Kane’s most likely destination, with club executives Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe coming into London on Monday for talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Ahead of a third proposal worth around £85 million, it was quickly rejected by the Premier League club.

Despite the amount exceeding the German’s record buy, it is still far short of Spurs’ appraisal, which has Bild concerned about the forward taking matters into his own hands.

Kane is Thomas Tuchel's top target at Bayern and they have already seen three bids rejected

According to the German site, Kane may decide to ‘buy himself free’ from the final year of his Spurs deal by foregoing a substantial amount of his income, which is estimated to be approximately £20.6 million each year.

That figure could be enough to narrow the gap between the two clubs’ positions, and it would be a remarkable step for Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer to leave north London.

Bild goes on to name Thiago Alcantara and Julian Nagelsmann as players who have made such transfers in the past, and even suggests that Thomas Tuchel’s side may be able to compensate Kane in the future if such an arrangement is achieved.

Meanwhile, Mail Sport reported on Monday that if Spurs sell the England captain, they may investigate a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson.

Forest manager Steve Cooper does not want to trade Johnson, who has admirers at Aston Villa, but they must be pragmatic with FFP on their shoulders.
