Arsenal has submitted a £23 million bid. David Raya bid’ follows Brentford goalkeeper’s transfer message.

Arsenal are eyeing a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as competition for Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have reportedly made an initial approach for Brentford keeper David Raya, as Mikel Arteta seeks to provide more competition for current stopper Aaron Ramsdale. Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United all balked at the Bees’ £40 million valuation of the Spain international, who is expected to join Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano claims that an offer of £20 million up front with a further £3 million in add-ons was submitted to Brentford on Thursday evening, £17 million less than their prior assessment, after the 27-year-old has already told the Bees that he wants to go for Arsenal.

Personal details have already been agreed upon, and if the transfer is finalized, current Gunners number two Matt Turner is expected to go, with Nottingham Forest keen in the American international.

Brentford have been forthright about their attitude on Raya, with boss Thomas Frank revealing that they are happy to let him depart if their valuation of £40m is satisfied – despite the fact that he has only one year left on his contract and is refusing to sign a new one.

“Like everything it’s a negotiation,” Frank said when news first broke of Arsenal’s interest. “I would love to get £40m. That’s what he’s worth. I think he’s one of the best keepers, he was one of the four best keepers in the Premier League last season, so what is the price?
“And [Harry] Kane, you’re talking about a year left and £150 million.” I believe the keeper is past his prime. In any case, it’s a good thing I’m not negotiating. That belongs to Phil [Giles], Matthew [Benham], and Arsenal. “I just handle the coaching.”

If successful, Raya would join Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber as Mikel Arteta’s summer recruits in a spree that would surpass the £200m mark as they look to go one better than last season and dethrone Manchester City.

Arteta was asked about the prospect of Raya moving to north London after Ramsdale’s penalty heroics in Arsenal’s Emirates Cup match with Monaco on Wednesday.

However, the boss remained tight-lipped on the potential deal. “You know that I’m not going to talk about any player who isn’t here, I’m sorry,” he remarked before complimenting Ramsdale’s performance.

“He was really good,” Arteta remarked, confirming Ramsdale’s inclusion in his plans for the upcoming season. “I think he was really composed in the game, I think he didn’t have to intervene too much, I think the two actions, one was a very close range goal, one was the action where they had the cutback and they hit the post, and there wasn’t much more to do.” Everything he did with the ball was excellent.”
