Tottenham new signing James Maddison says he would “love” for Harry Kane to stay at the club.

Kane, who has one year left on his Spurs contract, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer. Tottenham, though, has rejected a bid worth more than £81 million from the Bundesliga heavyweights.

Bayern executives flew to London this week to meet with Spurs CEO Daniel Levy. Kane, however, is still in north London.

And that is where Maddison, who joined Spurs this summer from relegated Leicester for £40 million, wants Kane to stay.

“We were friends before I joined Tottenham from the England squad, we have similar interests and get on well anyway away from football,” Maddison stated at a TNT Sports start of season event in London.

“I would like Harry Kane to stay because, in my opinion, he is the best No9 in the world.” But what will be will be, and Harry is a total pro.

“It hasn’t been a distraction because Harry is a true professional.” I won’t get into specifics because I don’t know anything, and let’s keep Harry’s condition in mind.

Harry Kane could be on the move this summer

“Everyone knows what Harry Kane is like; he’s a super professional guy who gives 100% in training at whatever club he’s at.”

Maddison joined Tottenham after impressing at Leicester, despite the fact that the Foxes were demoted from the Premier League.

Only Kevin de Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold have created more chances for Tottenham in the last five seasons than the ex-Norwich midfielder.

When he first joined the Spurs, he stated, “I’m here to win.” I know a lot of people speak about how long it’s been since Tottenham has won a trophy. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we could win.

“I know from the manager and the other players in the squad that we have what it takes to win.” That mentality of wanting to win and attempting to win. That’s what I’ve seen so far, so I’m absolutely in it to win.”
