Tottenham open talks to sign £13m Argentina U20 striker Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central
Tottenham have begun discussions with Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz.
The Argentina U20 international has been linked to Nottingham Forest, Roma, and AC Milan in recent weeks, with Rosario asking about £13 million.
Veliz scored three goals in four matches for Argentina during the U20 World Cup, catching the eye of European scouts with his work ethic and tenacious all-action style.
The 6ft 2ins centre forward is only 19 years old, yet he has 19 goals in 59 games for Rosario, 11 of which came last season.
Tottenham are looking for a striker who can lead the line while also being quick as they prepare to lose Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. Tottenham have approached Rosario Central to sign centre-forward Alejo Veliz
The Germans are still short of Tottenham’s valuation but believe they can get a deal agreed before August 12.
Tottenham have Richarlison as a ready made centre forward but are looking at young, quick players to build a new attack.
Brennan Johnson of Nottingham Forest is a top target, and Gent’s quick finisher Gift Orban is also on their radar.
Veliz, on the other hand, is a more traditional central striker who they have identified as a strong fit for their ambitions.
The talks are in their early stages, but Rosario is optimistic that a deal can be reached.
