Chelsea have completed the signing of Axel Disasi from French giants AS Monaco.

With Wesley Fofana sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury, Mauricio Pochettino viewed Disasi as an excellent substitute for the Frenchman. The 25-year-old centre-back has agreed to terms with the Blues on a six-year contract worth roughly £38 million.

“Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France, and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage,” said co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. He is eager to advance in his career, and we are thrilled that it will be with Chelsea. We warmly welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him work alongside Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the coming days.”

Disasi made 130 appearances in Ligue 1 and will bring valuable experience to a young Chelsea club. He has also received four France caps and was a member of the team for last year’s World Cup.

The defender is characterized as “a formidable presence in the air, an intelligent reader of the game, and a defender capable of being used as a right-back when required” by the Chelsea website. Chelsea has signed Disasi from Monaco.

“I am so happy to be here, at this big club,” Disasi remarked after the trade was completed. “I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful family, and I hope to accomplish great things here.” To win championships. I shall do everything in my power to achieve those goals. I have a lot of goals.

“I can’t wait to feel the energy of the fans. This is a very good stadium, one where you have a beautiful proximity to the fans. A typical English stadium, I think.

“The fervour of the fans in the Premier League, the atmosphere, the intensity of the games: it is something that excites me.”
