One thing is certain: teams will have chances against Liverpool, especially in the early stages of the season, but getting past Alisson is a difficult feat in and of itself.

Michael Owen predicts where Liverpool and Everton will finish in the Premier League table.

Michael Owen believes Liverpool will return to the Champions League and that Everton will have a better season.

Following their fifth-place performance in the Premier League in 2022-23, the Reds hope to return to the elite European competition. It was the first season in Jurgen Klopp’s tenure that they had failed to finish in the top four.

The Blues faced another tough battle on the last day of the season to keep their place in the top division. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s one goal was enough to keep Everton above the drop zone.

So far, Sean Dyche has brought in two players: Ashley Young on a free transfer from Aston Villa and Arnaut Danjuma on a season-long loan from Villarreal. Following Frank Lampard’s dismissal at the start of 2023, the former Burnley manager was tasked with keeping the Blues afloat.

Concerns continue over Everton’s ability to climb the table and escape relegation. The Blues are looking to strengthen their team and are in negotiations with Sporting CP about a trade for striker Youssef Chermiti.

In a tweet on Friday morning, Owen – a boyhood Evertonian who started his career at Liverpool – tried his hand at predicting the final Premier League standings ahead of next weekend’s big kick-off.

For the Reds, he predicts they will return to the Champions League but will not be able to unseat Manchester City at the top. Owen believes Arsenal will finish second for the second year in a row because to Mikel Arteta’s revival.

Manchester United completes the top four behind Liverpool. While Owen believes the Reds’ opening-day opponents, Chelsea, will finish sixth.

The 43-year-old believes Everton will finish just inside the bottom half under Dyche and reckons Luton Town, Sheffield United, and Wolves will not escape the basement.
