Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has attacked his former club Barcelona over the purchase of Bernardo Silva.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has slammed his ex-club Barcelona over their attempts to lure Bernardo Silva to Catalonia this summer.

Silva was a key part of City’s treble-winning side, single-handily carving apart Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League semi-final. However, the Portuguese star has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Pep Guardiola slammed his former side

Barcelona appeared to be the frontrunner, but no proposal for Silva has been submitted. Guardiola has now lashed out at his previous club, saying, “I don’t want any players who don’t want to be here.” I’d like to work with men who wish to stay.

“But we needed a proper offer, which we didn’t get… If they want him, they’ll board a plane and contact our athletic director…”

City are also desperate to keep Kyle Walker, with Guardiola’s side apparently labelling a second contract offer to the full-back as a result of rising interest from Bayern Munich.

They have also strengthened throughout the summer window, with Mateo Kovacic joining from Chelsea and Josko Gvardiol appearing to be on his way from RB Leipzig.

Bernardo Silva was one of City's standout players last season

City return to action this weekend when they face Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

Last season, the two sides battled for the Premier League title.

However, Arsenal were unable to overcome the unstoppable might of City – who strung together win after win to claim the Premier League. Guardiola’s side also swept up the FA Cup and Champions League in a near-faultless run-in.
