Van de Ven will travel to London for a medical before signing a long-term contract if an agreement is reached. Tottenham’s interest in the player has long been known, with the Premier League club previously agreeing on personal terms with the Dutchman.

Van de Ven, who can play on the left side of a back three, in a back four, or at left back, was a notable performer for Wolfsburg last season, appearing in 36 games across all competitions.

The defender’s move to Tottenham would be Wolfsburg’s second-largest departure, following Kevin de Bruyne’s €76 million move to Manchester City in 2015. VfL’s €50 million cost will go towards rebuilding and might be a catalyst in their recruitment as they aim to sign Rennes midfielder Lovro Majer on personal terms. They have previously considered the €25 million asking price to be too high, but with increased funds, the Wolves may be able to make a reasonable offer to the French side.
