Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement in principle with VfL Wolfsburg for star defender Micky van de Ven, according to Football Insider, with a £30 million deal now complete.

Under new manager Ange Postecoglou, the North London club is rebuilding and looking to add a central defender or two before the summer transfer window closes. They appear to have made significant progress in their pursuit of van de Ven.

The Dutchman has been a key player for Wolfsburg and is now eager to advance in his career. Tottenham has negotiated an agreement for £30 million, and the sale should be completed soon as the 2023/24 season begins.

Van de Ven, for his part, is open to a transfer to north London on pre-agreed-upon terms. Now that an agreement in principle has been reached, it may be a matter of when, not if, the transfer will take place. Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle to sign Micky van de Ven.

The Dutchman will pen a long term deal at N17 and will form the crux of the defensive rebuild under Postecoglou. He will also complement Cristian Romero, who is more of a physical presence rather than a technical maestro.

Van de Ven’s speed is a significant quality he will bring to the table. This will give a fresh dimension to Tottenham’s defence and equip Postecoglou more ammunition to pursue his attacking strategies.

Tottenham are interested in both Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Torino’s Perr Schuurs as central defenders this summer. It remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will push ahead on either front to make further reinforcements after the van de Ven agreement is completed.

Van de Ven was also a target for Liverpool early in the transfer window, and he was thought to be “open” to reuniting with his old sporting director Jorge Schmadtke at Anfield. Tottenham’s acquisition of him for £30 million is nothing short of a triumph for Daniel Levy and co.
