Chelsea appear to be closing in on Elye Wahi but Montpellier’s president is expecting a bid from the Blues’ Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur before the window closes.

Louis Nicollin, the legendary Montpellier manager, was known for speaking his thoughts, and it appears that the proverbial apple did not fall far from the tree.
Throughout the summer, Louis’ son, current Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin, has been refreshingly candid about Elye Wahi’s future.
He reveals that Chelsea has made a bid in the area of £24 million. One that the Ligue 1 club has turned down. He also expects to get an offer from Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking for forwards capable of filling Harry Kane’s potentially Bayern-bound boots. “There are offers. We expect more,” Nicollin tells RMC Sport. “We’ve had an offer from Chelsea. We thanked them, but we refused. We wait.

“I had Tottenham interested, and they should be moving soon.” Frankfurt is another option. This is a musical chairs situation; if Kane departs Tottenham and/or (Randal) Kolo Muani leaves Frankfurt, everything changes. “We also found out that Benfica was interested.”
Wahi is supposedly worth more than £30 million to Montpellier.
While there will undoubtedly be questions about whether someone so young can truly fill Kane’s large shoes, Wahi did score 19 Ligue 1 goals last season at the age of 20.
Meanwhile, Nicollin has set no timeframe for Wahi’s resignation. If he has to wait till the end of the window to get the most out of it, so be it.
“We’re not in a hurry. He’ll stay if he wants to. “There will be no worries,” says the president. “Elye stated that he wished to depart. We reached a deal with his representatives. We are collaborating.
“There is no deadline.”
Tottenham are also keeping an eye on Gent’s prolific Gift Orban, while a £13 million deal for Rosario Central’s Alejo Veliz is nearing completion.
However, Nicollin did confess earlier this summer that Wahi “really likes Arsenal.” It remains to be seen whether the Arsenal supporter is willing to set his red-and-white loyalties aside if Tottenham confirms their interest in the coming weeks.
