SAINTS manager Russell Martin confirmed the club had rejected a bid for Che Adams earlier in the summer after the striker netted the winner in the Championship opener.

Bournemouth’s bid for Che Adams was rejected by Southampton.

Adams scored in the 87th minute of a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday after Adam Armstrong was credited for brushing Nathan Tella en route to goal.

According to the Daily Echo, the offer came from Premier League club AFC Bournemouth, and no other offers have been made for the 27-year-old.

Bournemouth’s bid for Che Adams was rejected by Southampton.

Martin believes he is comfortable with his forwards – unless one goes – and Adams started the game on the bench, with Armstrong favoured.

Martin said after the game on Wednesday, “I think it’s going to be very fluid, they’re both top quality.”

“Of course, as long as we keep both of them. “If one of them leaves, we’ll have to replace him,” the boss explained.

“Choosing which one to play was the most difficult decision in the team.” I believe we can get both on the field tonight, but not tonight.

“They both scored, though Arma’s was a little different!” I was thrilled with Che’s reaction to not playing; it was incredible – a beautiful vibe among the group.

“He’s a great character, so respectful and honest. There’s a lot of noise around him, we turned down a bid for him a couple of weeks ago and nothing has happened since.

“The way he has dealt with that has been amazing, and the reception he got from the Sheffield Wednesday fans getting off the bus – having played for United – I’m delighted he scored.”
