Romeo Lavia, a Southampton wonderkid, is up for grabs, and Liverpool is threatened by competition.
Liverpool is threatened by another competitor over Romeo Lavia
Romeo Lavia, a wonderkid for Southampton, was thought to be a top target for Liverpool, but those aspirations have now been dashed.
Lavia was omitted from Southampton’s starting lineup on Friday night as they kicked off their Championship campaign, but his future is still up in the air.
Lavia’s future has been discussed with Liverpool, but Chelsea is also interested in signing the 19-year-old Belgian international.
Arsenal is rumoured to be keeping an eye on Lavia’s situation as well, but before manager Mikel Arteta could spend more money after spending about £200 million on new players already this summer, players would need to depart the north London club.
Liverpool will be concerned by Chelsea’s interest in Lavia since the Blues are likely to make a higher financial offer for the player who has emerged as Reds manager Jurgen Klopp’s top target.
New acquisitions are required to strengthen a depleted Reds side after he lost a significant number of first team stars during the summer, including captain Jordan Henderson and seasoned midfielder Fabinho, both of whom transferred to Saudi Arabia.
Losing out on Lavia would be devastating for Klopp, but Liverpool might not be willing to shell out the £50 million Southampton is seeking for a player who played 29 times in the Premier League last year.

Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga is also believed to be on Liverpool’s wanted list, with reports in Spain suggesting initial talks between the two clus have already taken place.
