Liverpool returned with a proposal worth £46m but it was turned down
Southampton has rejected Liverpool’s third proposal for Romeo Lavia.
Liverpool continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia after having a third bid rejected by the Championship side.
After their original two bids of £34m + £4m and £42m were turned down, the Reds returned with a £46m offer, which was also rejected, according to the PA news agency.
Saints are reportedly asking £50 million for a player who has only made 29 Premier League games in one season.
Negotiations between the two parties are expected to continue.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah’s representative has denied reports connecting the attacker to a move to Saudi Arabia, saying the 31-year-old “remains committed” to the club.
According to a Middle East newspaper, talks were taking place between the Egypt international’s representation and Al-Ittihad regarding a two-year agreement for roughly £155 million to the player.
Salah’s former teammate Fabinho has already moved to Al-Ittihad in a £40 million deal this summer.
Southampton has rejected Liverpool’s third proposal for Romeo Lavia.
In that perspective, the £60 million figure being floated for Salah – who has 139 goals in 231 Premier League games – seems to undervalue a player who is only a year into the most lucrative contract in Liverpool history.
Salah’s agent claims the former Chelsea and Roma forward has no plans to leave Anfield.
“If we had intended to leave LFC this year, we would not have renewed the contract last summer.” “Mohamed remains committed to LFC,” Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas said on Twitter.
Liverpool beat Darmstadt 3-1 in their final warm-up at Preston’s Deepdale – chosen because work on the Anfield Road redevelopment is still ongoing – before their Premier League opener at Chelsea on Sunday. Salah scored and assisted Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz netted a brilliant, audacious volley.
Jurgen Klopp fielded a starting XI that will most likely be used at Stamford Bridge, with £35 million summer signing Alexis MacAllister filling the midfield holding post, with no clear challengers for the position following the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia.
The Liverpool boss admits that a quick fix for the weekend is unlikely to be a long-term solution.
“We have to find a formation for Chelsea in the next six days, not for the entire season,” he stated.
Klopp accepts Mac Allister as the number six is far from ideal, but he may be the guy asked to fill in despite producing his finest job, both in his brief time at the club and previously for Brighton, farther forward.
“He’s a world-class player with and without the ball,” Klopp remarked. Alexis can play there in a compact formation, but should he play there if it’s open? No. But he has proven to be a fantastic footballer and has performed admirably.”
