The 31-year-old has made over 200 appearances for the club since coming from Chelsea in August 2018 and has been a near-constant in the Spanish capital.

Courtois was named man-of-the-match in the 2022 Champions League final, which Los Blancos won 1-0 over Liverpool in Paris.

After his contract at Manchester United expired earlier this summer, Spain international David De Gea, who had previously been linked with a big-money move to the Santiago Bernabeu, might be a possibility for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Belgium international, 31, will undergo surgery in the following days.

Courtois has won Spain’s La Liga twice since joining Real Madrid in 2018. He was crowned the finest keeper in the world at last year’s Ballon d’Or awards.

He has made 230 appearances for Real Madrid, who face Athletic Bilbao in their opening La Liga game of the season on Saturday.

Before joining Real Madrid in 2018, Courtois won the Premier League twice with Chelsea and La Liga once with Atletico Madrid. He also won the Champions League in 2022, with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool in the final.
