Ekitike struggled to make an impact in the capital after breaking out as one of France’s most promising prospects during the 2021-22 season. Everton in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike from PSG

PSG signed the kid after he scored 11 goals in his debut full season with Reims, but starts were scarce for the 21-year-old last season.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Everton are in talks over a loan deal for Ekitike with an obligation to buy next summer for €35m (£30m).

According to Patrick Berger, negotiations are still at the early stages, with numerous clubs around Europe keen, including Borussia Dortmund.

According to Alan Myers, Everton sent a bid to the French giants late on Wednesday night that is being reviewed, with PSG eager to sell as their summer revamp gets underway.

PSG have already signed eight new players this summer, and speculations say that Kylian Mbappe and Neymar may leave the club, joining Lionel Messi.

With the arrival of Goncalo Ramos and Marco Asensio to the Parc des Princes, Ekitike’s options may become more limited.

PSG only signed Ekitike on a permanent basis this summer after accepting a loan with an option to buy from Reims for €28.5 million (£24.5 million) last summer, but other arrivals are likely to push him lower down the pecking order.

Everton have been linked with a number of strikers this summer, but no fresh newcomers have arrived to vie for a starting berth with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The transfer of Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon is expected to be finalised in the coming days, but the 19-year-old is unlikely to be Everton’s first-choice attacker this season.

Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka, as well as Southampton’s Che Adams, have all been mentioned as prospective replacements for El Bilal Toure, who joined Atalanta.

After appearing in Everton’s final two pre-season friendlies, manager Sean Dyche expects Calvert-Lewin to be available for Saturday’s Premier League opening against Fulham.

Calvert-Lewin scored the sole goal in their 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon last Saturday after coming off the bench, but Dyche has reiterated that he will not play from the start on the first day.

The forward’s fitness has been called into question several times in recent years, and Dyche is hesitant to rush him back after yet another lengthy sabbatical.
