Manchester City will begin their title defence against newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on Friday night, and Pep Guardiola will have a completely fit squad to pick from.
New signee Gvardiol did not arrive in time for his Community Shield debut against Arsenal last week. Guardiola, on the other hand, claims that the Croatian center-back has settled in well in Manchester and is ready to play on Friday.
“He’s ready,” Guardiola remarked, adding that Gvardiol has settled in “perfectly.” Pep Guardiola provides updates on Josko and Nathan before Burnley Match
Nathan Ake has been training hard and is ready to play for City, giving them an extra boost in defence. Due to an injury, the Dutchman was unable to travel to Wembley, but he is expected to return soon. “He’s doing well in training,” Guardiola continued. “He’s ready, too.”
In Friday’s encounter, City will reunite with club great Vincent Kompany, who will take control of Burnley in the Premier League for the first time. Guardiola has been impressed by his former captain’s work at Turf Moor, but he is mindful of the threat they bring.
“Normally, the first games are difficult, especially against newly promoted teams,” Guardiola explained. “They have a lot of energy and want to get off to a good start.” Vinny [Vincent Kompany] is very familiar with us. He did an outstanding job and completely demolished the Championship. It is quite difficult in the competition to win, win, win. He’ll perform fantastically well [in the Premier League]. It’s going to be a tough game.”
